The Most Important Reasons Why A Granite Worktop Is An Excellent Choice

February 2, 2018 by Annie

There is no doubt that a kitchen island or worktop is one of the best elements any kitchen should have. It’s not only a beautiful feature – it’s a useful feature as well. This is why choosing the right worktop is essential – and choosing the right worktop material is undoubtedly one of your most important decisions. If you are looking for the right worktop for your kitchen, granite will always be an excellent choice. Here are the essential reasons why.

It’s durable

Granite, since it is made from natural stone, is a tough material. It can withstand daily wear and tear, and it can also be resistant to heat. It’s a strong material that’s sure to weather any ‘abuse’ put on it. In fact, experts often recommend that you don’t chop vegetables or other food items directly on granite, since the granite may actually dull your knife – that’s how strong it is. With the proper care and maintenance, your granite worktop is sure to last for decades. It’s an investment that is more than worth it.

Resistant to stains and spills

Another quality of granite which many homeowners are happy about is its resistance to stains and spills. Of course, if you spill something on your granite worktop, it is recommended that you wipe it up right away – but granite is better than other materials in that when it is properly sealed, it is more resistant to stains and spills.

It’s hygienic

If you have young children around the house, you already know that having a clean and hygienic environment is a necessity. And this is where granite does not disappoint. Unlike other worktops which may harbour mould or encourage the buildup of bacteria, granite worktops are hygienic, and are, in fact, anti-bacterial.

Easy maintenance

Yet one more reason why granite has always been a popular choice is its low-maintenance aspect. Granite worktops are easy to clean as well as easy to maintain; all you need is a bit of warm water and a mild soap or liquid to get it sparkling clean, as confirmed by the experts in kitchen worktops in Ireland, C & G Granite. Regular cleaning is easy when it comes to a granite worktop. A word to the wise, though: make sure your granite worktop is also adequately sealed so that it can retain its natural beauty and durability for many years.

When it comes to expense, you have no need to worry, either. Granite was once deemed expensive, but this has changed in recent years. There are now more suppliers and fabricators of granite, and the price of an average worktop may be a lot less expensive than you may think.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
