‘Tis the season of hot chocolates and festive films, cosy nights tucked under the blanket and time to dust off the decorations and transform the home into a winter wonderland.
Unfortunately, the winter weather can be abysmal. Now while most children are not fazed by the cold noses, soggy socks and chilly hands that being outside creates, the option to turn the house into a magical winter wonderland is too good of an opportunity to miss.
Let it snow
It’s been almost a decade since the UK last saw a white Christmas. It’s synonymous with the festive day, but sadly for the UK, we are more likely to see snow in January through to March.
To create your winter wonderland, start with white bed linen. This won’t do it alone though so add accessories to really bring the snowy feeling to life.
Choose a throw and a few scatter cushions for the bed in a range of creams and whites and a variety of textures; fur and velvet will be a perfect mix. Once the bed is finished, it’s time to add some snow on the ground. Opt for a white or cream rug and add some beanbag chairs for a little extra touch. Pop some sweet ornamental robins on bookshelves and on desks and perhaps scatter some fluffy white pom poms around the room for good measure. A stuffed toy polar bear will add that important finishing touch.
Sleigh ride
Santa Claus makes a regular appearance to winter wonderlands around the country in the run up to Christmas, and of course, he travels by sleigh. While you may not have a grand wooden sleigh ready to put in your child’s bedroom, Divan Beds Centre zip beds are an ideal solution. They’re also the perfect way for children to share a room while enjoying their own space, but zipped together they form the ultimate feature in your winter wonderland.
Night sky
A sleigh ride wouldn’t be complete without a night sky. Bring the starry sky indoors with a little help from some fairy lights. Simply drape them from the ceiling to help create the illusion of stars. Choose warm coloured lights and ensure no hazards are caused when hanging them. What is ideal about this accessory is that it can be reused long after the winter wonderland is packed away.
Being outdoors
Of course, no winter wonderland would be complete without some nature. While you will likely have your Christmas tree up in one of the main rooms in the house consider adding at least one small tree to the bedroom with some decorations will add to the festive feeling.
Pinecones decorated with festive ribbon and hung from the ceiling or scattered around the room will also add to the outdoor-themed illusion you’re aiming to create.
Final touches
To add the finishing touches to your winter wonderland, add some festive accessories. These can include baubles, tinsel and mini reindeer, snowmen or polar bear figures – bowls of sweets and candy canes will also be a big hit for when it’s time to sit back on the sleigh and watch a film.
