Safety for Crossbow Hobbies: Handy Safety Tips

February 18, 2020 by Annie

Whether you’re looking to use a crossbow to go on recreational hunting trips with your friends or you’re interested in competing at local crossbow tournaments, simply continue reading, to discover a few safety tips which will help keep yourself and others safe.

Instead of purchasing a second hand crossbow or using an old crossbow which lacks modern safety features, it’s a wise idea to invest in a crossbow which features the latest technology, materials and safety features. As an example, you can’t go wrong purchasing a crossbow which offers Tenpoint Crossbow Technology. Which will help you stay safe while making it easier for you to hit your targets.

Never dry fire your crossbow:

Dry firing your crossbow can be dangerous as you can injure yourself in the process. Furthermore, if you dry fire your crossbow, you’ll also run the risk of damaging your crossbow. So remember only to fire your crossbow, when you have an arrow loaded onto your crossbow.

Carefully store your crossbow in a hard sided case:

When you’re finished with your crossbow, make sure to immediately place it back into a hard sided case. Which will protect your crossbow from damage and will prevent your crossbow from accidentally firing. When you’re driving home or walking around.

Keep your crossbow well maintained:

Your crossbow will be far safer to use if it’s well maintained. As an example, it’s well worth using bow string wax in order to avoid your bow string fraying prematurely. Once your bow string starts to fray, don’t be tempted to continue using your crossbow. Instead, opt to have your bowstring replaced before you use your crossbow again.

Always wear safety glasses when you plan to shoot a crossbow:

In order to protect your eyes, it’s a great idea to wear safety glasses every time that you wield a crossbow.

Wait until you’re ready to shoot to load an arrow:

If you’re a hunter you may be tempted to stalk your prey with an arrow pre-loaded onto your crossbow, however doing so is extremely dangerous. As if you stumble over a rock or tree root you may lose your balance and may accidentally shoot your crossbow, when you’re not ready. Instead, make sure to wait until you’re ready to shoot your target, to load your arrow.

Make sure that your arrow has a clear path to your target:

Never shoot an arrow which may hit a tree branch or another obstacle as it could ricochet off an obstacle in its way. Instead only shoot your arrow if you have determined that your arrow has a clear, unobstructed path to your target.

Never point your crossbow in the direction of another individual:

Even when your crossbow is not loaded, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of safely handling your crossbow. Which means that you should never point your crossbow in the direction of another individual.

If you follow the above crossbow safety tips, you should have no trouble practicing your hobby safely and keeping yourself and other individuals around you safe.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
