Things You Should Know About CBD Oil For Pets

April 5, 2020 by Annie

Since a few thousand years ago, people have used the marijuana plant. Then, it was mostly used in rituals and on specific times of the year. People treated it as a mystery herb, and we only recently started to uncover its secrets. It’s been a while, but it has become legal in most of the states, and people are enjoying the benefits from it.

But, it’s only natural that when something is beneficial, we want to share it. And so, people started to give their pets some products and saw that there are quite a lot of improvements. It seems that CBD oil is the best product for pets, because it has a shallow dose, and it has a lot of benefits. Research is still going on to see the full spectrum of problems this can tackle, but for now, most of the science revolves around the following. Click here to read more.

It relieves pain and inflammation

Pain is a very general term and can be understood differently by everyone. There are different types of pain, but the most common one that pets experience is inflammation. This can be caused by arthritis, intervertebral disc disease, and many other diseases. As well as that, there is also muscle inflammation from playing too much. In both of these cases, CBD oil has been proved to relieve the symptoms.

Since most pets age, inflammation and pain go hand in hand with it. That can cause your furry friend to be sad and melancholic since it can’t go outside and enjoy the things it used to. Giving them a few drops can make the pain go away, and you can play together again, just like old times. But, you shouldn’t overdo it with the drops. If you give them a higher dose than they need, it might make them drowsy.

It helps with seizures

Both dogs and cats can have epilepsy. Now, in humans, this has been the most studied part of CBD. We proved that it works, but we don’t have as much data on pets. The small amount of research that has been done is positive. That means that using CBD oil will reduce the frequency of seizures in both cats and dogs. However, all of the studies that were done were combined with anti-seizure meds. Here is some more info https://www.holistapet.com/.

It helps with cancer and arthritis

Cancer is quite a broad term, and it can mean a lot of different things. This has also been studied in people, and it has been proved that it helps in two ways. The first one is directly treating the tumor. And, the second one is reducing the pain from chemotherapy and all of the secondary effects. The research has mostly been done on mice, but many people on forums have confirmed the positive impact on their own pets.

Are there any risks when giving your pets CBD Oil?

As with any medicine, there are a few risks involved, but they are nothing to worry about. The most significant risk is misjudging the correct dosage. This means that you give your pet a little bit more CBD than they need. Thus, they will feel drowsy and sleep more. But, this side effect goes away with time. It’s nothing to worry about, and you can try decreasing the dosage to see what happens.

Another risk is ingesting THC. It’s important to know that CBD and THC are not the same things. CBD is the part that relieves pain and has all of the benefits. On the other hand, THC is the psychoactive part of the hemp plant. This has a lot more side effects for both cats and dogs because it makes them high. This can last for more than a few days, and you need to take them to a vet if this happens.

How much should you give them?

The general rule says that the best dose for pets is one milligram per pound of bodyweight. You need to give them the treatment two times a day. If this does not work, you can double the dose to two milligrams per pound. In general terms, if your pet weighs 10 pounds, you need to give them 10 milligrams for a low dose, and 20 milligrams for a healthy dose. The best practice is to start low and then increase it.

But, before you do anything, you need to schedule an appointment with a veterinarian. Don’t do anything on your own hand because the CBD may interfere with some medicines that your pet is taking already. They are not allowed to prescribe you specific products, but they can give you a lot more information. All in all, you should try to get as much info as you can, and your pet will be happy and lively as it was.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
