Bike San Diego 2022

April 15, 2022 by Annie

San Diego’s incredible weather and collection of historical, cultural and natural sights make it the ideal place for biking. Gear up your bike for a ride along the city’s incredible bike paths, trails and bike lanes so you can get outside more and see what makes San Diego one of the best places to live. Here are the best spots for biking in San Diego in 2022.

Cycle Through The Historic Balboa Park

Start your biking adventures at the city’s historic Balboa Park. Balboa Park features several bike rental shops if you don’t own a bike or you can bring your beach cruiser bike. The park is home to many different museums, parks and attractions, including the San Diego Zoo. It’s a great spot to people watch and learn about San Diego’s unique architecture.

Take Advantage of Highway 101

If you’re up for a challenge, bring your road bike and your stamina to a ride along San Diego’s famous Highway 101. This scenic highway features a large bike lane for riders and gorgeous scenery. The ride will take you right alongside the Pacific Ocean and some of San Diego’s most memorable beaches, including Solana Beach, Tide Beach and Cardiff State Beach. You’ll see dramatic cliffs and large waves crashing down on the sand.

Tour the Pacific Coast Highway

If you keep riding along the highway north, eventually you’ll find the Pacific Coast Highway, another scenic road that California bikers love. This route takes bikers from San Diego to Los Angeles along the Pacific Coast. Consider riding this long stretch of highway with e bikes for women instead of a traditional bicycle.

Ride Along Beautiful Mission Bay

Beginners can get great views and a good biking workout on the Mission Bay bike trail. This trail is a paved path that loops around the relaxing Mission Bay. You can see several of San Diego’s beautiful city parks, wildlife areas, SeaWorld and plenty of families. Plan to stop at one of the parks along the trail for a picnic lunch.

Visit La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove has a number of bike paths and routes that connect riders to this popular natural attraction. Rides around this area will have you exploring hills, cliffside views and the region’s native wildlife, such as sea lions and pelicans.

Do the North County Loop

San Diego’s northern region also features some less popular spots further inland. Bikers can try out various loops in the northern part of the county that go through towns like Camp Pendleton, North Valley, Twin Oaks, Mesa Rock and Escondido. This route will take bikers through neighborhoods, wineries, forests, commercial areas and wildlife preserves. Take your kids with an ebike for teenager riders so they can keep up.

Explore the Cabrillo National Monument

The Cabrillo National Monument is another hot spot to tour via bike. Start at Point Loma Peninsula and ride about 16 miles to the monument area. The views are terrific and you’ll get a workout consisting of hills and climbs.

Bike riders have lots of options in the San Diego area. Make 2022 your best year of biking by visiting some of these spots.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
