It’s time to shop for those back-to-school basics your kids have outgrown. Even if they haven’t outgrown last year’s clothes, tastes change. Having a couple sensational outfits for school is a great confidence booster. Plan your budget and let your child have a say in the decisions; sticking to a budget will teach your children skills they’ll use all their lives.
Even if our kids end up studying online again, having new clothes for school is part of a tradition that will contribute to making the experience feel more normal. Sticking to a regular routine, homework, etc, will help students take school more seriously.
Let The Fandom Shine
At Redbubble, there’s a T-shirt for every occasion and hobby. Luckily, they have a kid section. Whether they want a shirt with Appa from “The Last Airbender,” one with a unicorn dabbing, or one with a design that proclaims their identity as a gamer, Redbubble has a shirt for that. The benefit, of course, is that this will help the gamers, Airbender fans, and unicorn fanciers find each other. School is much better with friends, especially with friends that share stuff in common.
Twirly Dresses and Jumpsuits
Every girl should have a twirly dress, and every dress should have pockets. Where else will they put their pebble and seashell finds, a note to the teacher from Mom, and their snacks to share with friends? Designers take note: all dresses should have pockets. Happily, the good folks at Presley Couture seem to understand. They carry a line of buttery-soft dresses with pockets in every color you need. I’m also a fan of the jumpsuits, which are a great basic for every girl’s closet. These adorable, kid-friendly clothes are perfect for school. And yes, they have pockets!
The Basics
Don’t forget to stock up on underwear, socks, and a couple pairs of sturdy shoes. Most schools are anti-sandal for good reason. To prevent mismatched socks, buy socks in all the same style and color. My daughter no longer loses her socks, though, since I started buying hers with Studio Ghibli characters on them. She loves their movies, and carefully organizes her socks and keeps them together. So buy all the same socks, or purchase ones with special designs if you think that will work for your child, too.
Also, check out your child’s dresser. It’s probably time to get them a few pairs of high-quality jeans. Lands End is a wonderful resource for jeans, hoodies and sweaters. Make sure you have lots of long-sleeved and short-sleeved tops, too. Lands End clothes always seem to be made well enough to pass on to the next child. They also have school uniforms, if that’s what you need.
Once you have their school clothes and supplies ready, your children will be more prepared for the end of summer. Have fun shopping with them and take lots of pictures. These days will be gone sooner than you think. Enjoy them.
