What Are Some Exercise Games and Activities I Can Do With My Kids?

Have you ever wondered if your kids are getting enough exercise? According to experts, children between the ages of 6 through 17 should get 60 minutes of exercise a day.

If you’re struggling to get your kids moving while spending quality time together, you came to the right place.

Read on to learn about these fun exercise games to try with your kids.

1. Outdoor Obstacle Course

One of the best ways to make your backyard interesting to your kids is by creating an outdoor obstacle course. If your kids don’t spend time outdoors anymore, you will make the backyard exciting again after you create an outdoor obstacle course.

Creating an outdoor obstacle course doesn’t need to break the bank, and you can build one using materials you already have around the house. Start by gathering sturdy planks of wood, pool noodles, plastic chairs, and blankets.

You can use the scrap lumbers to create planks, chairs, and blankets to create tunnels and pool noodles to create additional obstacles. To take the obstacle course to the next level, you can make it into a competition.

2. Practice Yoga With Your Kids

Staying active with your kids doesn’t mean you have to run around, ride bikes, or play tag. If you want your kids to get more exercise, you should try practicing yoga with them.

Practicing yoga with your children is a great way to spend quality time together. Not only will yoga help you burn some calories, but it will also help your kids with flexibility, balance, coordination, concentration, and more.

If you decide to practice yoga with your kids, try these 6 methods.

3. Trampoline Jumping Jacks

Some children don’t love to do jumping jacks, especially during PE class. If you want to incorporate more physical exercise into your routine, the first step is to get creative.

No kid can resist doing jumping jacks if they’re doing them on top of a trampoline. This is a great exercise for older kids that will motivate them to get their blood flowing.

You don’t have to get a large trampoline for this activity —a small trampoline will do the trick.

4. Dance Party

Dancing is a great way for you to bond with your kids, let loose, and get some exercise in the process.

If you and your kids have been spending too much time indoors due to the cold weather or other restrictions, then you know your kids might have extra energy to burn.

Before you have a dance party with your kids, you should set up space and atmosphere. Make sure you move the furniture around to ensure you have the necessary space. Don’t forget to create a playlist before you push play, so there are no interruptions.

Involve your children in the process by asking them what songs they want to see on the playlist. It doesn’t hurt if you add some fun lights to the dance party.

5. Indoor Obstacle Course

If you live in an apartment or a place with long, harsh winters, creating an indoor obstacle course is one of the best ways to keep your children active.

The best thing about an indoor obstacle course is that you can use your furniture to create it, and you don’t have to spend any money.

For example, if you can remove your couch’s cushions, you can use them to jump over them. The dining table and chairs are great to crawl under and even to use as a fort.

It doesn’t hurt if you have an old trampoline laying around to take your indoor obstacle course to the next level.

6. Animal Races

If old fashion races are not doing the trick for your kids, it’s time you turn up the heat. To take racing to the next level, you can turn regular races into animal races.

You can get animal masks at stores that sell party favors, Halloween customs, and if you’re creative, you can make them yourselves.

Tell your children to place your bets to see if the bunny can beat the squirrel.

7. Jump Rope

Jump rope is one of those old-fashion games that never go out of style. If your children have never played jump rope before, now it’s the time to bring out the rope.

This is a great way for your children to get some exercise and learn some new fun songs.

8. Old Fashion Game of Tag

In the age of technology, children don’t spend a lot of time playing outdoors but rather looking at their screens. In fact, children between the ages of 8 to 12 spend about 4 hours a day on their screens.

If you believe your children are ready to take a break from their tablets, why not play an old fashion game of tag. A tag game will be new and exciting for your kids, so don’t forget to have drinks and snacks ready for after the game.

9. Crab Walk Races

It’s no secret children like a little friendly competition, especially if it involves fun prizes at the end of the race.

Rather than having ordinary races, you should put a spin on a classic race and turn them into crab walk races. Because maintaining the crab walk position is a lot more challenging, your children will get a good workout, and children love a fun animal walk.

Don’t forget to have fun prizes ready for the race winners, such as an extra scoop of ice cream or 15 more minutes of television.

10. Twister

Twister remains the king of indoor activities, and it’s great for the entire family. Not only will Twister give your kids hours of fun, but it will also help them improve their flexibility.

Once you start playing Twister, your family will look forward to Twister night.

Are You Ready to Give These Exercise Games a Try?

Now that you know about these exercise games to do with your children, you’re ready to break a sweat while spending quality time with them.

If you’re ready to get creative with your children, you should try creating an outdoor obstacle course, play a game of Twister, have a dance party, and practice yoga with your kids.
