A Child and Their Bedroom

August 5, 2019 by Annie

A child is a huge responsibility. They are a human life that you are responsible for. You want to shape this child into a well respected and responsible human being. A child should get his own room early. First, it helps them feel as if they are their own person. Second, it gives you space to be with your partner and concentrate on that relationship.

Studies say that a child should sleep in their parent’s room, but in a crib, for up to the first year of their life. This reduces the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). In the beginning, it is good and healthy to sleep in the same bedroom as your child. Although, having them sleep in their own bed is good for them and helps them feel less attached. Needy attachment can lead to problems that can affect your child as an adult.

If your child gets scared at night, it’s perfectly fine to let them sleep in bed with you. That is nurturing. But if you let them sleep with you every day, for any reason, you can cause them to have problems sleeping alone that can affect them into adulthood. So by the age of one, your child should have his own bedroom, at the very least. You can find a comfortable mattress for your child at Bedding Mart. This bed will be their own comfortable space. Having their own space allows them to grow and feel a sense of independence. Allow them to freely decorate their room with items and pictures they enjoy.

Next, giving your child their own room not only helps them emotionally and physically, but it can help you and your partner emotionally and physically. Being distracted by a child causes partners to stray from their relationship that they have been working on for years before. It takes a toll. Having just that few ten hours at night to spend with your partner without having a child get between the two can be very helpful in a marriage. You not only want a good relationship with your child but with your partner as well. That partnership should be for life.

Finally, a child having their own room can help their confidence tremendously.  Being able to have a place they can go to play, or just be by themselves, can help them know what they want in life. It makes them self sufficient and independent which are great qualities to have. Being able to grow up in your own room is unlike anything else. That child will spend so much fun time in that room. They will create many memories. These are the rooms that they will have so many firsts in. As they grow up in their own room, they will cry and they will laugh, they will have a space of their own until the day they go off to college or move out. They will leave this room that they have grown so accustomed to, to start their own lives, and families. Then on the day they return for a visit, they will walk into that familiar room, and get filled with nostalgia about all the times spent in that space.

The right time to have your child sleep in their own room would be as early as you can. Giving your child their own room is not only important and has many benefits. Some of these benefits help you, some help the child. First, it helps them feel as if they are their own person and not trapped in a box. They can create and grow in their own space. Second, it allows you to work on your relationship with your partner. This relationship is just as important as the relationship you have with your child. Third, a child’s bedroom can have a positive effect on a child’s future. Your child will blossom in their own room. There is no doubt about that. It’s healthy, it’s beautiful, and it’s great for everyone. Doesn’t sleeping in your own bed make you feel great?

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
