3 Tips For Making It Through A Complicated Divorce

October 12, 2021 by Annie

While going through a divorce is never going to be easy, if you have circumstances that make your divorce especially complicated, like other legal proceedings happening simultaneously or children who are involved, these things can make your divorce much more challenging to figure out and manage. But luckily, there are a few things you can do to help you get through this time as painlessly as possible.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three tips for making it through a complicated divorce.

Find Someone Who Can Help You

If you’ve never gone through a divorce before, you likely don’t know too much about the process itself. Because of this, you’re going to want to find people who can help you through this time.

Ideally, you should be working with an experienced lawyer who can help you with all of the legal parts of getting divorced. They should have your best interest in mind and try to make things go smoothly for you. Additionally, if you’re needing some emotional support, finding people who have been through your situation personally can also help you to feel less alone and to find some solutions to problems you might be trying to work through.

Shield Your Kids From The Complication

While you might feel overwhelmed by what’s going on in your life, the last thing that you want to do is bring these feelings of stress into the lives of your children.

If you have kids who are being impacted by your divorce, try to do your best to shield them from the complications that are taking place. If there is conflict between you and your former spouse, do your best to deal with this conflict away from your children. And when your former spouse gets on your nerves or seeks to make things harder for you, express your feelings when your children aren’t around to see or hear you. This way, you’ll be protecting them from emotional anguish now and in the future.

Try Not To Take Things Personally

Although this can be very hard with all the emotions that run high during a divorce, to protect yourself mentally and emotionally, you may want to try to depersonalize your divorce as much as possible. When things get complicated and stressful, especially if they’re brought on by your strained relationship with your former spouse, try to remember that their actions are more about them than they are about you.

Going through the life changes and transitions that come along with a divorce can be incredibly challenging. But if you’re able to find ways to cope and deal with the complications that come along with this, you should be able to find peace and happiness on the other side.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
