Why Should You Turn Your Concrete Garage Into An Office?

February 8, 2018 by Annie

Concrete garages are extremely versatile, they can be converted and transformed into pretty much anything you put your mind to. Bespoke concrete garages, as manufactured by companies like Dencroft Garages, have a lot of potentials for homeowners to use creatively. More and more homeowners are capitalising on the extra space that garages provide and looking to expand the living space of their homes by converting their garage.

The days of a garage being used for its original purpose of car storage is almost gone, instead, they are transforming into things like; guest rooms, home cinema, workshop or an office space. Concrete garages provide the structural properties that a building needs in order for you to use it as an office including; strength durability and security.

There are many benefits that come with converting your garage into an office space. First and foremost, it can provide you with the opportunity work peacefully and without distraction in your home. This can allow you to work more productively from home which may help you do more for your job and put more hours in which could see you even earn a promotion.

Secondly, the garage can also open the door for you to begin working in a freelance capacity or start up your own business. As your concrete garage will have little or no overhead costs you can quote a much cheaper price than your competitors which will help you get more work and break into the industry faster.

If you are going to transform your garage into a home office, bear in mind these simple tips:

Electricity
If you want your concrete garage to be truly used as a functional home office, then you will need to have a power supply inside. A high percentage of the work you do will be using a laptop or computer, which would need to be charging if you are planning on using it regularly. Secondly, you will also need a light source inside your garage if you want to be able to work into the evening or night. When there is no sunlight you are still able to use your converted office to carry on working providing you have it wired up.

Interior Design
You should carefully consider how you are going to utilise the limited space available inside your garage. Planning the interior design of your office is important so you can be sure you have enough space to fit everything you need. Make sure you have enough room for a desk and a chair, as well as tables or drawers for increased workspace and storage.

Heating
It would be nearly impossible to work at your most productive if you are uncomfortably cold inside your garage. Make sure you have some form of heating inside your garage, whether that be a central heating system or a portable heater. Whilst concrete is naturally good at holding in heat, your garage can still drop to low temperatures, especially at night.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
