Top tips on how to be a more economical driver

February 26, 2020 by Annie

Anyone can make a driver. However, not every driver is a great and economical one when it comes to fuel usage and general auto handling. You see, fuel is ever costly. And it can be a great idea to have ways to cut down on costs associated with fueling your vehicle even when using fuel fleet cards.

Many drivers who are employed by transportation companies have to drive to a long hour and too far places. This connotes that if they could be a bit economical when handling the transit vehicles, the employer could realize savings. This can also help to reduce emissions to the environment, which leads to pollution. So, to help all drivers out there, this article focuses on the various handy ways to be economical while on duty.

Engine Idling

In most cases, you will see drivers leaving their vehicle engines running when they are not even moving. Maybe they are just taking a rest or waiting for an offload. At this time, it is recommended that you turn off the engine.

Even when you are shopping for any other reason, it is good to find out if you can switch it off once you find out not so soon you will be leaving. However, this does not connote that you turn off the vehicle engine whilst on a traffic jam. If you realize that it is set to take like more than 5 minutes, then you could consider turning off.

Proper Route Planning

The route you intend to use must be properly planned. You see, taking a short cut may not always be the best idea. It could be a route that is cramped, with several climbs, and the roads might even be poor for transportation. Thus, such a road may lead to high consumption of fuel.

The route must be properly planned and e4ven scheduled to make sure there are no multiple unnecessary stops, which are said to have a negative impact on the efficiency of fuel. You should consider making use of better route management systems that allows you to access or receive clear and concise updates on which routes are best to take.

Make sure the tires are inflated correctly

Under-inflation in tires can lead to difficulties in vehicle movement. This connotes that the vehicle engine will be required to work extra hard to overcome the resistance created by the under-inflated tires. The harder the engine works, the more fuel it consumes.

Thus, you should consider inflating all the tires to the correct volume. Before you even art the engine, walk around your truck to check if the tires are correctly inflated. Make it a routine, and you will always save fuel.

Wrap Up

You have explored the things you need to do in order to increase fuel efficiency. Actually, you will be required to plan your routes properly. Make use of handy applications in the market that help in route management. Also, inflate tires correctly and consider not to idle your running engine more often.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
