Different Types Of Dental Implants

May 15, 2024 by Annie

Dental implants provide long-term solutions to missing teeth by becoming integrated with bone. As they offer more stability than dental bridges, implants offer long-term solutions.

Endosteal implants are the most frequently used type of implant. Resembling screws, these devices are secured into the jaw bone to support one or multiple false teeth.

Sometimes the jaw bone may not be thick enough to support implants, which can be corrected through sinus augmentation or bone grafting.

Endosteal Implants

Endosteal implants are surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots that support replacement teeth. Their metal frame is covered by gum tissue and covered by a crown to make the implant look like it belongs. Endosteal implants can be an ideal choice for people who have healthy jawbones that can support restoration work.

However, if your jaw bone is too soft or thin to support an implant surgery, a dentist may perform a complementary procedure called bone graft to strengthen it before proceeding with surgery. A bone graft includes adding material from another location in your body or synthetic bone-substitute to increase strength in your jawbone and build it up further for surgery.

Dental implants can not only boost your confidence but are an effective restoration option that can also preserve jaw bone density and help prevent additional oral health issues in the future. They’re more comfortable and permanent than removable dentures or bridges, though proper oral hygiene must still be adhered to in order to avoid complications like infections.

Subperiosteal Implants

Subperiosteal implants consist of metal frames positioned directly beneath gum tissue on the jawbone, typically constructed of titanium or cobalt-chromium alloy. Subperiosteal implants offer extra support to dental prosthetics that require greater strength than endosteal implants can. Your dentist will make an incision in your gums to drill through bone into space for the metal frame before installing posts to support artificial teeth when your gums have healed.

When considering implant-supported tooth replacement, it is crucial to carefully consider your individual needs and consult with an experienced oral surgeon. Both types of dental implants offer their own set of benefits and drawbacks – selecting one will work best in your particular circumstance and help restore both smiles and functionality over time! Adherence to care instructions given by your oral surgeon is the key to success if opting for Endosteal or Subperiosteal dental implants can make all the difference for success!

Zygomatic Implants

Zygomatic implants may be more costly than traditional dental implant treatments, but they allow those suffering from severe bone loss to bypass bone grafting altogether. Zygomatic implants are longer than standard implants and placed at an acute angle into cheek bones for added stability.

They allow for faster restoration as they can be immediately loaded with temporary teeth, making them the ideal solution for patients who have experienced significant bone loss due to periodontal disease or years of wearing full dentures.

Dental implant restoration also eliminates the need for additional procedures, like sinus lifts, which require extra healing time. This means less surgery, a faster recovery period and faster return to daily life with full smiles. This breakthrough in dentistry offers hope to those otherwise unable to receive dental implant restoration; but before proceeding it’s important to consult a knowledgeable surgeon first.

Mini Implants

Though dental implants serve the primary function of replacing missing teeth, they also strengthen jaw bones by replacing tooth roots – helping prevent bone loss and its associated complications.

Mini implants can help patients who have lost significant bone density to secure their dentures without the need for costly and invasive bone graft procedures. They offer an alternative that is both affordable and inconvenient.

They’re less expensive and healing quicker, usually within one visit with local anesthesia.

Dental implants are a long-term solution for missing teeth, offering stability and confidence tо patients. About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
