3 Tips for Maintaining a Happy Marriage With Kids

May 2, 2022 by Annie

Once you have kids, you may find that your relationship with your one and only changes. Although it’s possible to come out stronger than ever, many couples find themselves facing challenges that they weren’t prepared for. After all, it can be hard to keep the spark alive when there are little ones to look after. Here are some of the best tips for a healthy marriage after you have kids.

Prioritize One on One Time

Many couples make the mistake of believing that you have to put your children first if you want to be good parents. However, putting your children first all the time can start to take its toll in your marriage. It’s important that you prioritize spending one on one time with your significant other too.

Many parents may hesitate since they’re worried about their kids feeling left behind if they go on a date. Do yourself a favor, and find a babysitter who has CPR training, plenty of experience, and who you can count on to look after your little ones! Go out, have a wonderful time with your significant other, and do it often! You’ll thank yourself for it!

Be Flexible With The Other Parents Methods

Not everyone has the same parenting methods. Perhaps mom is a little more strict than dad, or maybe vice versa. It’s not uncommon for parents to butt heads about how they think the other parent should discipline the kids. One of the best things you can do is to accept the other parent as they are.

Don’t boss them around or tell them what they should or shouldn’t do, and trust them. If you got married to this person then you loved them enough to trust their better judgment. Be flexible and accept that not everyone parents exactly the same way as you. If the other parent has unreasonable parenting methods that you can never agree with, then it may be time to rethink your marriage.

Sleep In the Same Bed

Believe it or not, there are plenty of couples who don’t sleep in the same bed anymore. Since it can be a challenge to get little ones to stay in their beds, many parents resort to sleeping with their children instead of in the bed with their spouses. This is a big no-no when it comes to intimacy. Whether you co-sleep or sleep in your own bed, you should be sleeping in the same space as your partner. When you sleep in different rooms, it isolates you from the other and can create distance in the relationship.

Remember, intimacy doesn’t always necessarily mean sex. It can also simply be the act of laying next to each other while you sleep.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
