How New Technologies Are Affecting Family Life

April 30, 2018 by Annie

Advances in technology have changed so many things in our world. Most of them make a task more simple, while others allow us to process things we never thought possible. The younger generation seem to embrace new innovations without too much trouble, but some people do wonder how new technologies are affecting family life.

Making Life Easier for Moms and Dads

There are new technologies that can make life easier for moms and dads, freeing up some of their time for other things. Performing your weekly grocery shopping on a mobile app and having the goods delivered to your front door can be a huge help. Not having to wait in a queue at a bank because you can perform the task on your banking app can create more leisure time, and make life a little less frantic. These are just two of the new technologies making life easier for moms and dads; there are many others, such as smart cooking devices for kitchens.

With more time to spare, moms and dads might want to pursue hobbies they had been putting off for some time. With an untold amount of information on the internet, it’s easier than ever for them to find all the information they need about their interests. If they like to sit back and relax and play games on a smartphone or tablet, the choices are endless and they do not even have to leave their home. They may want to opt for games like bingo, which do not take too much brainwork, as they will have enough thinking to do when the rest of the family gets home. They may want to research a topic they are interested in, or spend hours on YouTube.

Helping With Education

Today’s technology is a boon for education for people of all ages. For youngsters, it’s being used extensively in schools and colleges and it makes their homework so much easier. Everything they need to know is available online, and searching and using the Internet is a skill they learn very early in life. For older people that want to further their education, there are online courses that will fit in with their jobs or other family commitments. Degrees can be earned this way and will allow them to start a new career or move forward in their present one.

Bringing the Family Together

There have been some concerns about the Internet separating families and making people anti-social. However, research has shown the opposite is true. It may be through social media, or through one of the chat services, but parents and children interact more with each other because of the developments in technology. The research showed families will come together to play games online too, and often spend a few hours together having fun. This is brilliant because grandparents might not be able to run around kicking a football anymore, but when a family is playing online games together everyone can take part without any worries.

Overall, new technology has been good for families and as it continues to evolve, it will become even more so.

About Me

Hi! I'm Annie and I have 3 kids (all in their teens - yikes!). My mommy blog isn't all about lunches and DIY - it's also about humour. Like how my kids make fun of my texts as if I don't know how to use emojis (I DO!). Now that I have a bit more time - since my kids don't want to hang out with me (teenagers), I have taken up blogging.
