Four Types of Equipment for Above Ground Pools

May 31, 2021 by Annie

Have you finally invested in a new above-ground pool? If yes, you have to equip it with the most basic accessories, which improve the safety of swimmers and keep the water pristine.

The most popular types of equipment include ladders, heaters, pumps, filters, chlorinators, etc. These accessories upgrade and maintain the cleanliness of swimming pools.

Have a look at a detailed description for each pool accessory.

Ladders

Even though the majority of models are equipped with a ladder, this equipment is unquestionably worth the upgrade. There are multiple variants, such as A-frame and deck ladders. A-frame ladders are simple but convenient, as they are equally high on both sides. These are, however, not suitable for pools surrounded by a deck.

Deck ladders, on the other hand, are specially designed for models with decks. They are mounted on the deck, and the steps go inside the water. Irrespective of which type of ladder you choose, the construction and material quality have to be impeccable. For example, ladders made from polyethylene plastic provide UV protection and resistance to different weather. To be on the safe side, make sure you pick a model with handrails. Read this to discover more about the properties, history, structure, and uses of polyethylene.

In case you decide to purchase a ladder, remember to buy a ladder pad as well. This accessory can damage the pool bottom by tearing, puncturing, or making a hole in your lining. Such a budget-friendly addition serves as a cushion between the liner and the ladder.

Heaters

Another essential type of pool equipment to consider is the heater, recommended to everyone who plans to use it throughout the year, not just in summer. The heater will keep the water warm long after temperatures turn from hot to cool. Homeowners are offered a choice of three heater types, electric, solar, and gas.

Electric heaters are affordable, uncomplicated to install, and suitable for different climates. Nevertheless, these heaters have a tendency to heat the water slowly and increase the cost of energy bills. In contrast, solar heaters are the perfect choice for homeowners living in sunny climates. There should be at least four to a maximum of six hours of sunshine for these units to generate enough heat to make the water warm. Although the upfront costs are high, the operating costs are incredibly cheap.

Ultimately, gas heaters are capable of heating up above-ground pools much faster than the rest of the models. If searching for the best above ground swimming pool gas heater, make a comparison between natural gas and liquid propane heaters. These must be connected to your existing household gas line or to a propane tank. In any case, the task should be performed by a professional.

Pumps and filter systems

Pumps and filtration systems are vital for the maintenance of above-ground pools. Their job is to keep the water clean and protect the health of bathers. There are single-speed and dual-speed pumps. The former has only one speed, whereas the latter includes an additional low speed. The average power of pool pumps is 1.5hp, which moves water fast enough so as not to leave much dirt.

In addition, the water is pumped to the filtration system, where it should get clean. Homeowners can purchase three kinds of filters, sand, cartridge, and DE filters. Sand filters are a low-cost, user-friendly variant, requiring nothing but regular backwashing. The sand inside the filter should be replaced after five-year use.

Cartridge filters are environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and low-maintenance. These filters eliminate the need for backwashing. They only require periodic cleaning by removing the cartridge and rinsing the filter with a hose. Conversely, DE filters provide the clearest water in return for high maintenance. They must be backwashed regularly, during which filter disassembly isn’t required.

Chlorinators

Chlorinators are a must-have pool accessory for everyone who wishes to spend less time on balancing chemicals. The role of these devices is to gradually disperse chlorine while ensuring its levels are optimal. Saltwater chlorinators offer the best sanitation by dispersing the chlorine across the entire pool. Your job would be to test the chlorine and salt levels weekly in order to adjust their levels if necessary.

Automatic chlorinators store chlorine tablets and release them based on the instructions of pool owners. They need to add the tablets once a week and leave the device to do the rest of the job. The aim of mineral systems is to make the water softer and less irritable. These devices use mineral packs, which should be replaced each season. This useful source, https://waterandhealth.org/healthy-pools/the-truth-about-chlorine-in-swimming-pools/, reveals the truth about chlorine in swimming pools.

Conclusion

Investing in the right accessories provides better maintenance, improves cleanliness, and increases safety.

The life of your swimming pool will be extended!
